Excitements for the upcoming Super Bowl

Kayla Comried @Kcomried [Co Executive Yearbook Editor]

This year, the super bowl teams are very evenly matched. They happen to truly be the two best teams in the league, and they are being coached by the best of the best. This leaves many people wondering who will win. There is no clear cut answer to this question, because the game will simply depend on which team shows up to play this Sunday. The patriots and the Seahawks both have a record this year of 12-4, and so, neither team is being favored. The football playing that takes place during the super bowl is obviously why most fans watch the game, but there are many other things that go into this annual Sunday night festivity, such as the commercials.

The commercials that play in those short times between play are for sure something that many fans look forward to. This year, the “usual” ads will be once again present, such as those from Coca Cola, Pepsi, and Doritos. Something new this year will be the array of technology ads such as those being sponsored by Microsoft. These companies pay unbelievable amounts of money for these ads, and some even buy more than one. This year, to buy one ad, a company would have to pay 4.5 million dollars. Four point five million dollars for thirty seconds. This just proves how many people are streamed into this game. Another thing many fans wonder is just how much it costs to go to this event.

One ticket to the superbowl costs anywhere from $8,360-$40,256. Pretty expensive for an outing lasting roughly 3-4 hours. Once these super fans arrive at the bowl however, the prices do not stop. Over the course of 2014, the average price of a soft drink at an NFL game was $4.73 while the cost of a hot dog was about $5.38. It seems as though the profit they are making never ends, but considering that the average NFL player makes 1.9 million dollars a year they have to have money coming from somewhere. The rest of the money goes various places, and the hosting city can make around 1.5 billion dollars for hosting the super bowl.

So, whether or not we agree with the price of these items, or the salary of the players, it is obvious that no matter what, millions of people will all be connected through the super bowl on Sunday night. It is an event that a major amount of Americans look forward to, and this year is no different.
