Journalism; the good, the bad, and the ugly

By: Liz Smiley, Quill Co-editor-in-chief

Journalism. It’s a crazy, fun, wild, hungry class. There are parties for absolutely everything. Holidays, birthdays, finishing Vox, even for fake half birthdays, and not to mention just because. Journalism is such a fun, random class. We eat, party, hang our stuffed cat, play pig baseball and stuffing falls out his butt, we have even pre-wrapped people.

Now, I don’t want you to get the wrong idea. It’s not like we never do anything. We always have something to do. Between Vox, yearbook, Daily Pow Wow, and photo assignments, the stress and workload can add up. If someone has never been through deadline week in journalism, their life must be a cake walk. Deadline week means death. Everyone runs around frantic and crazy as the stress take’s them over. If someone has however survived even one deadline week then they deserve a gold medal.

Journalism can be the most fun class someone could ever take in high school, but don’t think there isn’t work to be done. If someone thinks they ever get a break between quarters, they are insane. Journalism is a constant, year-round class. Editors and some students come in during the summer to prepare for the coming school year. The work never stops, but neither does the fun.
