Out with the old, in with the new

By: Alex Coleman [Staff Writer]

Everyone has been there, walking up to the school on the first day of freshman year. Heart pounding and palms sweating, crossing fingers that everything goes smoothly on the very first day of high school.

Some people would say that the transition from eighth to ninth grade is easy, others would say it was a little more scary. “It was kind of nerve wracking, I didn’t know where any of my classes were and I didn’t know very many people,” says Madie Reynolds, freshman. Many freshman would agree with Madie. Sydney Stigge, freshman, had similar concerns. “I was a little nervous, I thought I’d get lost, but everything turned out fine.”

There aren’t many differences between middle school and high school, school is school right? Although they are few and far between, there are a few major differences. “You don’t see your classmates as much and there are fewer classes, also you have lunch with everyone instead of just with your grade,” Madie says, “also the teachers are way more laid back here.” Many people would agree that high school is better than middle school. “I like it better here because you have fewer classes, and you get to choose your schedule so you aren’t stuck with random classes,” Sydney says.

Needless to say, freshman year is a roller coaster. From the first day to the first homecoming dance, high school is a ride. Whether it’s terrifying or fun filled is entirely up to the student.
