When looking around the MHS parking lot, Grace Ehlinger comes to a realization that many students here have made before: it’s a mad house. Parking is a hard task for many new drivers. Grace sums up the parking lot like this, “kids can’t park.”

There are a lot of factors that make the parking lot situation better or worse. Many complain that the snow, and lack of plowing, make it ten times worse.  Grace thinks that, “it looks like there’s a bunch of drunk drivers at our school when they don’t plow.” It seems that every student crookedly parks ten feet away from one another, and who can blame them when the snow and ice are covering the lines. “I’m surprised everyone fits in the parking lot when they park like that,” she said.

Another big problem is that students at MHS don’t know how to navigate the parking lot safely. When the bell rings after school, students pile into their cars and are trying to get home as quickly as possible. In their haste, students back out of their spots without looking, and just aren’t safe in general. Grace talks about the crazy parking lot, “there are so many crashes in the parking lot, even when it isn’t snowing.”

The problem of the parking lot needs to be solved quickly. Students can get severely hurt by crashes. Being new drivers, the lack of experience doesn’t help much.
