Hagen has high hopes for soccer season

By: Hannah Miller [Co-Yearbook Editor]

The game is about to start. He shakes out his legs and nerves as he prepares for the ball to start coming his way down the field. The whistle is blown and he thinks to himself, “Game on!”

Ryan Hagen, senior, plays for the varsity soccer team. They have a big home game today at 4:15 against Waterloo Columbus, which Ryan has named it, “The Marion Mega Bowl.” Ryan is very excited for this game. “Of course I’m excited. Because it’s the biggest game of my season,” he said. Ryan feels this game will make or break the team. “If we win today, it will turn our season around and show all of Iowa we are a team to compete with,” he said. Ryan wants everyone to come out and support them in this big game, so get to the soccer field at 4:15 today!

The Marion boys soccer team are 4 and 5, so this game will really help them with their record. Ryan feels their season has gone very well so far, but is unsure about how the rest of the season will go. “We have tough competition coming up, but there is no telling how it will end. We can only get better,” he said. Even though the rest of the season is uncertain, Ryan has big hopes for his teammates and himself.
It’s halftime and Marion is only down by one. Ryan gives his teammates a quick pep talk before they step back on the field. They run back on the field ready to show Waterloo Columbus what they are made of. Ryan has faith in his team that they have a chance to pull this game off and create one of the biggest upsets in 3A soccer.
