Wrestling is a very unpredictable sport. The wrestler could be on bottom, getting pinned, and then the next moment they are on their feet ready to go again. But the sport comes with more than just excitement. It comes with a major time commitment and considerable lengths to make sure that the wrestler is at a very specific weight to be able to wrestle.
During the holidays, this is not very hard for Kyle Grandon. “I eat whatever I want, I’m ten pounds under so there are no limits on what I can and cannot eat.” exclaimed Kyle. For most wrestlers it is hard to maintain such a defined weight over the Christmas break.
Not having practice really takes a toll on some wrestlers, they either come back to practice way over their weight class, or if they are serious about wrestling then they come back as in shape as they were when they left. But this doesn’t necessarily mean that the boys have to count calories. “I wrestle at 220, I don’t really have to worry about that.” Kyle stated.
Perhaps making weight is not the hardest thing for the boys over break, some families even make fun of the wrestlers and torment them with lots of food. “My family is really nice about it so I don’t really get that.” Kyle expressed.
With the holidays, and all the Christmas food and parties around, the wrestlers can’t really say no to all the goodies. Kyle Grandon will not be the only wrestler taking advantage of all the food over break. But lets just hope they all come back ready to wrestle for the next tournament!
