The Marion boys basketball team has not gone to state since 2011, and seven years later, the boys are returning to the Well on March 6th to bring it all on the court. The road leading up to this game has been winding and complicated, but the feeling of winning and going to state makes up for it all.
“I think we had a pretty good feeling going into the game, we all felt like we deserved to win,” Jaffer Murphy, sophomore, said. Jaffer Murphy has played basketball for three years, and played in the regional final game against Davenport Assumption. The boys overall record is 14-10 and they will be going against Xavier on March 6th.
“My first reaction was that we did it, pretty much I mean I always had goals this season ya know just telling myself we are going to state this year, and it happened,” Murphy said. This is also the first time in several years that we have had both basketball teams make it to state the same year.
“I mean, to be on the winning team, when everyone is jumping up and down and you’re in that circle, the passion in the air it is just great to be apart of that,” Murphy said.
With the season winding down to an end, Murphy wishes to go out with a bang at the state game and make the school proud. All the hard work has finally paid off, and the continuous dream, has finally come true.
