When a teenager turns sixteen, one of the first things on their mind is getting their license. Getting a license is a right of passage in high school. For Isabelle Webber, junior, driving was really important. She got her license two days after she turned sixteen on March 25th, 2014. Unfortunately, the next day Webber got into a car crash, resulting in her car being totaled. “It was hard. I cried and went to counseling. We didn’t have the money at the time to get me a new car,” Webber commented, “The damage was $10,000.”
After five months of working two jobs, Zio Johno’s and cleaning apartments, Webber had enough money to buy a new car. She looked around for cars, and finally found the perfect one at Carousel 2 in Iowa City. After purchasing her car, the workers there asked if she would like to participate in “Car-eoke”. This is a game where you sing, like in karaoke, then they post your video on their facebook wall and whoever gets the most amount of like wins $2,500. The 2nd place winner wins $1,000.
The contest ended Friday with Webber in the lead by about 400 likes. She is ecstatic. “The results come out today. I can’t wait!” She says, “I hope you all voted for me.” Webber has promised to bring the Marion choir and band Dilly Bars, or some kind of treat with the money she wins. Her hard work has paid off, and now she can sit back and enjoy it.
