Education with a purpose

By: Hannah Miller, Design Editor

Education is always going to be important. Knowledge is the key to success, but schools are starting to zone in on general education more. Knowing the basics is needed to go forwarder into education, but lately schools are becoming less challenging and less specific to giving students keys to use in the workforce.

Going to school will still give people a good education, but schools should consider giving students more opportunities to learn about what they want to do. So many students schedule are taken up with math, science, and foreign language, which for some, they won’t need. Basics are needed in math, science, and some say foreign language, but going so far in depth seems kind of ridiculous for some people. Taking this classes are either required to graduate or classes they are suggest to take to get into college, but they don’t necessary have to do with what people will use everyday in real life.

Most people won’t need to find the square root of imagine numbers or solving for x or finding the temperature a chemical boils for their job. These might be good things to know if ever asked or interesting facts to know, but honestly how many times will these questions come up? Most likely not very often. Education should be focusing more on what will help people after high school not during it.

Education is very important and going to school is still necessary. Most of what you learn in school will be important, but going so far into depth in a subject people won’t ever use again can be a little excessive. Overall education is a must, but what people take far it might need to be changed a little.

Would be interesting to see more occupation-oriented classes, but most likely impossible, seeing as we have about 12 teachers who teach about 30 classes.
