Do away with snow days

By: Hunter Banes, Web Editor

Every year students from Marion stare at their TV screens hoping and praying to see the Marion School District listed under the cancellations, and every year this seems to rarely happen. While it seems every other schools’ name is on the screen, the Marion School District is hardly ever listed. Although, many people hope for these so-called fun-filled snow days, personally they don’t seem worth the hassle.

Snowball fights, snowmen, and sledding. Those are three fun things that happen in the winter weather. They are great ways to enjoy the snow and feel like a kid again. Of course, we all love snow days because we get to miss school and just relax. Along with these things there are downfalls.

Snowball fights often turn into throwing hunks of ice at each other, snowmen take a lot of time to make and then just melt away with your wasted time, and it is tough to get to a place to sled with the road conditions. Also snow days have to be made up in the dwindling, precious summer days. Besides having to make up the missed days, snow days aren’t even worth it. The roads are usually too bad to go anywhere, so one ends up sitting on their couch being bored out of their mind. At least at school one is with their friends.

So staying in school, and not letting a little snow and cold bother us too much is a way better alternative to sitting at home then coming to school on a day when we could be doing so many things. With our summer vacations getting shorter and shorter every year, saving as many days as possible is ideal.
