The lack of necessity of Pda

Wyatt Ehr @wyattehr [Staff Writer]

Any student who has walked through the halls of MHS has been unfortunate enough to encounter PDA (Public Display of Affection) in some form. This could have varied from something as simple as holding hands, or as extreme as two people swapping spit right in front of the student in the halls. PDA, to a certain extent, is fine, but there is point where it is just downright disgusting. People shouldn’t be forced into seeing this everyday at school, for it is annoying and unpleasant to watch.

PDA as a whole shouldn’t be banned, but there should be limits. For example, holding hands is completely fine. Nobody has ever gagged at the sight of someone hand holding. However, when it comes to them latching onto each other in the halls sucking faces, most people don’t want to have watching that on their agenda. No student should have to put up with this whenever they want to go down the halls of MHS

Not everyone is opposed to PDA. Some people may view it as an essential part to a strong relationship. Maybe they are just ‘so in love’ that they can’t live without using those five extra minutes between classes to embrace each other. Perhaps they are inseparable, and to ask them to not show PDA is like asking a bird not to fly, or a fish not to swim.

In the end, it is just a high school relationship, and PDA really isn’t necessary. It is possible to have a strong lasting relationship without being attached 24/7 for everyone to see. This is why the amount of PDA that is allowed should be limited. It isn’t enjoyable for anybody to watch, and it isn’t necessary.

I’m glad a student holds the same opinion as I do, and I believe I represent the staff in that opinion. Nothing wrong with showing love in places other than the privacy of your own homes, but you are correct in your assumption that there should be limits. There are many different ways to express love other than the above mentioned “excessive PDA.” They even make fun of this with high school characters in a comic strip Zits. Good job, Wyatt.
