Leading the way to a better community

By: Kylie McAllister [Co-Executive yearbook editor] @smileeyyykylie

Ever since the beginning of the school year the One Day in May Committee has been meeting to plan the big day for the school. They spend many hours meeting before and after school and even on the weekends to get One Day in May all planned out. Each member plays an important role to contribute to the big day. They have to find places for all of the students and staff to volunteer and they have to raise money in order to get the t-shirts and other necessary funds.

Emily Meeks, junior, is one of the committed students that make One Day in May possible for everyone. “Being a leader for One Day in May I get to make connections with different businesses when raising money and trying to find places to volunteer at,” Meeks said. Emily enjoys being a leader because she knows that she is giving back to her community and also helping others to do the same. “I am the leader of Milestones, which is a nursing home, and we get to clean,” commented Meeks. Being in charge of the Milestones means that Meeks has been contacting people in the nursing home to plan with them how she and the other volunteers and help them out. “It feels great giving back to the community,” added Meeks.

All of the work that has been put into planning One Day in May will be put in use tomorrow all thanks to the leaders who planned it. All of the students and staff will be out in the community in their matching t-shirts making a significant impact in the community.
