School’s slow stop

By: Kayla Comried [Co-Executive Yearbook Editor] @KComried

The clock drudgingly ticks on and on, and each school day seems like its own eternity. With the days getting warmer, and summer in sight, it leaves many high schoolers checked out of school. Summer is coming too slow.

Being fourth quarter, everyone just wants to skid by. Nobody wants super hard classes, and for sure, no one wants a ton of homework. This is one thing teachers need to understand. No high school student wants to go home, when it is 70 degrees, and spend their entire night inside doing time filler worksheets and writing paper after paper. Now, this doesn’t mean the teachers need to cover less material, and quite frankly they can’t, but fourth quarter is the longest quarter, this year especially. With all the snow days this school year, fourth quarter is about two weeks longer than all the other quarters, so maybe teachers could give more time in class to work on homework rather than trying to fit in extra “needed” material. If no other quarter had that material the students in that class this quarter don’t need to learn it either.

Another thing that seems harder and harder with each passing day is getting out of bed. The alarm seemingly goes off earlier and earlier, and that snooze button becomes more and more abused. Due to this, please do not judge other students if they show up to school looking like they just survived a hurricane. We all have our struggle days, and during fourth quarter especially, people need to learn to just not care. Really, when summer comes, no one will be interested in, or remember, what each person wore today, tomorrow, or two weeks from now, so don’t lose sleep and stress about having the perfect outfit or flawless hair. It’s just not worth it.

In just 37 days that last bell will ring, and we will all be set free for a few short months. There are only five miserable mondays until school ends, and just five fantastic Fridays, so power through these last few weeks, and try to enjoy them because as much as we want them to end now, one day we might find ourselves wanting them back.

I feel like teachers also need to understand most students cannot and do not want to focus 100% for an hour and a half, and then go home and do a few more hours of homework when it’s supposed to be our free time.
