Chasing dreams

By: Gage Miskimen [Feature Editor] @gagemisky

Why do students have to know what they want to do so early in life? It’s all adults ask since a kid is old enough to speak, “What do you want to be when you grow up Jimmy?” Most kids then proceed with answers like: a fireman, a superhero, a cowboy, a princess, etc. Most likely kids will not grow up to become these things. They will go on to become accountants, lawyers, engineers, etc. It just seems that a lot of kids just end up pursuing something that seems obtainable to them and take the shortest and easiest way possible. Sure, everyone wants to make money and make as much as quick as possible and most want to go to school for the least amount of time possible. Why do teens let others make decisions for us? People tell us we can be whatever we want to be, but then parents and teachers and other adults steer us in the direction that they want us to go. Students should actually be able to be whatever they want. If a guy wanted to become a magician, what’s stopping him? As long as he works hard and does whatever he can to become a magician he could be the best magician of all time.

Everybody can talk about wanting to do something with their lives and that sounds really great, but it’s more about what someone is willing to do to achieve what they truly want. A person has to believe in themselves to become what they want to be. First of all, they need to sit down and think of what they want. Not what anybody else wants for them, but they need to think what they truly want. Then they need to go out and get it. People can’t sit around and expect an opportunity to just fall in their lap. Go out and make that opportunity happen to be successful.
