Stop the discrimination

By: Ashley Lappe [Social Media Editor] @Ashley_Lappe33

The last decade many changes have been made towards the rights of gays. Gay marriage has been legalized in many states while some states have not legalized it. But even though people are opening their eyes to changes Arizona continues to discriminate. According to Arizona law, discrimination against gays is legal. This is a problem that needs to change.

If it is illegal to discriminate against other races it should be illegal to discriminate against  people with other sexual orientations. This situation is very similar to the 1950s when African Americans were first getting the same rights as whites, people believed they deserved to live the same, equal life as everyone else. Now gays are forced to go through a similar situation, they are not allowed to get married in many states and often aren’t allowed to adopt children. In addition to those things, Arizona now has a law giving small business owners the right to throw out gay customers if it goes against their religion. Gays, just like everyone else, deserves equal rights.

Times are changing and people’s mindsets have come a long way, yet some people’s mindsets towards people with different beliefs are stuck in the same place as they were during the discrimination of blacks. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect and have equal rights.
