Long prepares for State

By: Savannah Guyer @SavannahMGuyer

Although making robots may seem like something only paid engineers do, many students at Marion High School partake in this activity. Steven Long, senior, has been involved in robotics for all four years of his high school career. “My job in robotics is to be in charge of hardware. I design the robot with some help from the team.” Long commented. Being involved in an activity for so long might get tedious for some, but Steven finds robotics anything but boring, “I love the challenge it comes with. I get to solve problems in unique and creative ways.” Long stated.

The robotics team has been working especially hard this year, powering through competitions and making their way towards their goals, “Competitions have gone really well. Our first one wasn’t very good but we learned a lot and our last one was fantastic.” Long commented. The team even made it to state and Steven is ecstatic, “It’s really cool. We achieved the goal we set at the beginning of last year. It’s fantastic to continue to compete.” Long added.

Steven understands what can happen at state, which is in late February, and is prepared for all possibilities, “I expect that we will participate to our best abilities. I can’t expect more than that.” Long said. Expectations set and morale’s high, the robotics team is ready to compete and achieve more of their goals.
