Her ears become deaf to the sound of the screaming teammates, her body leans down slightly when “Set!” is yelled. Her head looks up at the gun and then she looks straight ahead at the track ahead of her. The shot goes off and she’s running at pace to keep her energy for the last lap.
Sam Livingston, sophomore runs the 400 and 800-meter races on the girl’s track team. “At first I’m nervous then once the shot goes off I get excited. I get to run,” Sam said. Sam runs the races that take discipline and self-control. The 400-meter is one lap and an 800-meter is two laps which means conserving energy and keeping control is a top priority. “I’m excited for tonight, we treated our first few meets as practices to see how good we were but I’m kind of nervous because I want to see how the team is doing,” she said.
People that are involved in track aren’t always running, they are also in the bleachers either recuperating or cheering their teammates on. “When I’m in the stands I cheer my team on,” she said. This season will bring challenges and hurdles for the team like all sports do but Sam seems to have a good attitude about it. “I think its going to be a good season because we are going to achieve great things,” she said. Sam is ready and so are her teammates for tonight’s track meet and they’re ready to do their best.
