A MHS tradition has returned

By: Taylor Millis [Feature Editor]

Here at Marion there is a tradition that has been kept for many years. Every year around the holiday season the school holds a holiday dinner for the staff and students. Unfortunately last year there was no holiday dinner due to the rebuilding of the middle school. This year it is back, but it’s not the same.

In the past, the staff and students were allowed to serve themselves the delicious food that the school cooks spent a lot of time making. Our principal and vice principal would cut the meat and serve it to each person. It was a tradition that most loved and looked forward too each year. It brought our school together like the holidays are for. This year as the holiday approached the talk of holiday dinner appeared. Excitement swirled through out the school and questions of if it was coming back were asked. Too much dismay this is what was found out, because of the nation wide school lunch regulations the school is not allowed to let us serve ourselves and have to limit the amount and type of food that is served. Although the holiday dinner tradition is back it is no longer the same and the excitement has died down.

Even though it’s not the same, we still uphold our tradition as much as we can. The staff and students here at MHS still come together and eat the meal the cooks have prepared to the best of their abilities within the regulations. Today we get to eat our holiday dinner once again.

Even though there are many changes to the holiday dinner this year, at least we have the tradition back.
