Halloween catastrophe in New York

By: Storm Bogs [Web Editor]

Over the past few days, the east coast, more specifically, New York, was hit by Hurricane Sandy. The hurricane left the people of New York devastated and it is still almost impossible for them to travel outside of their houses. Although Halloween is most likely the last thing on the adults’ minds, it’s probably all the kids can think about.

For many reasons, the majority of the kids on the east coast won’t be able to go trick-or-treating this year. Since there is still a huge flooding problem, the kids wouldn’t be able to get around from house to house unless they had a little boat or something. Trick-or-treating tonight would be a lot more dangerous than normal too. Who knows the types of people that will be lurking the streets of New York tonight for different reasons. These people could snatch up a little kid and nobody would even notice that they were taken. Also, before the hurricane hit, people were told to evacuate as soon as possible. Even if kids could get from house to house, there aren’t a lot of people at home to pass out candy.

Even though kids can’t trick-or-treat in New York tonight, they might be able to do an alternative activity, such as telling scary stories to each other or playing a board game by candlelight. Hopefully these kids can understand why they aren’t able to go trick-or-treating tonight, make the best of the situation, and get excited about going next year.

Due to the hurricane that hit New York, trick-or-treating tonight will be almost impossible.
