Yesterday we had our annual homecoming parade, filled with candy, kids, and cars! Traffic at stop signs were backed up seven or eight cars, but the streets were still covered with parents with their children and grandparents with cameras. Linn-Mar also had their homecoming parade yesterday. Besides the size of their school, there isn’t much difference between Marion and Linn-Mar. However yesterday, there was a difference in our parades that is making some students and even teachers feel belittled.
Last night on television was a great show of Linn-Mar’s homecoming parade, making a remark that Linn-Mar is one of the few schools that still have parades. There’s a lot of students that are wishing that our own parade would have been on television for everyone to see as well. If they had time to go to Linn-Mar’s parade, then why couldn’t they come to ours? It seems like Marion was less important to the news broadcasters.
The other issue that students and parents are having is tonights game. Tonights football game against Solon is going to be huge! We have a great winning record this year and so does Solon. However, it’s looking like our great game won’t be replayed on television anywhere. It’s our homecoming game and it’s going to be intense with a large crowd, doesn’t that seem like something worth watching? Linn-Mar’s must be more entertaining. With their losing record, it’ll be a great game to watch for their homecoming! It just seems like it’s not the smartest choice for the news broadcasters to report a game that wasn’t intense.
Tonights game will be great, so come and support the Indians as they do their job. Show the news broadcasters that Marion can be just as fun as Linn-Mar even though our school is smaller.
