He smells the fresh cut grass and can feel the cool fall breeze. He’s back in his cleats, helmet and shoulder pads. He and the rest of the team represent the brotherhood by wearing their jerseys at school on game days. These are the nights that these boys will remember and be proud of for the rest of their lives. This is the last year of high school football for the class of 2013.
Zach Borens, senior is enjoying a lot of things about his last year of high school so far. “I like that this is my last chance to make memories with the friends I have had for the past four years. It makes me really want to make those last memories important,” he said.
For Marion, football is more of a brotherhood; not just a team, but more of a family. “We want to make it to the dome this season!” he said.
For Zach’s personal goal he would like to earn offers for a variety of division one schools. “I plan on having a future in this sport, that is one of my main goals and I would sure like to accomplish it,” he said. Leadership and respect are important aspects of the sport and so is emotion.
“We have a good camaraderie, we are all brothers. We thought it would be tough at first but since that first day of working together we have all come together on and off the field,” Zach said. The boys do a lot of things for team bonding. “We do team dinners every Thursday, and a bunch of us go to breakfast at HyVee on Friday mornings and this year we have been doing bonfires at Trev’s after home games. And in the summer we do more stuff like swim at the Dolley’s and stuff like that,” he said.
The team has one very important goal to reach this season. Without the bonding the football team just wouldn’t be the same.
