Cinco de Mayo in the U.S.

By: Taylor Lamm [Staff Writer]

When people think about Cinco de Mayo they think about partying and just having a fun time with their friends. But do they actually know what it really means?
Cinco de Mayo is actually a Mexican holiday that is celebrated because of a war being won in a little town in Mexico. People celebrate this in Mexico but a person would think that they actually have a reason too. But it makes no sense for Americans too. America wasn’t even involved in the war in the little town of Puebla, according to history.com. It was a war between Mexico and France.
A lot of people in the United States might not even know the history of it. They might know that it was a mexican holiday but they probably don’t understand why it is actually called a holiday. Yes, it is a fun holiday to spend with the friends and maybe try some new foods they have never had, but everyone should understand the real meaning behind Cinco de Mayo.
