Track: a sport of variety. The main three sections of track are running, jumping, and throwing. In those three sections there are even more branches like: hurdles, shot put, discus, long jump, open 100, etc. Many people join track for the sheer thrill of having the wind whip through their hair, opponents in their peripheral vision. Brandon Fagle, junior, loves to be in track, because, “Track is fun!”
Brandon is in high school track for his first time this year. “This is my first track season since middle school. I did it in seventh and eighth grade,” Brandon explains. “[I joined because] all my friends did it, and Tyler Gunderson.” Track is a way for friends to hang out and be active together.
Shot put and discus is Brandon’s track choice because he did it in middle school. Plus he figured that being in shot put and discus would allow him to be with his friends, but not have to run. “I don’t want to run and I already have experience with it.” Shot put and discus also doesn’t require too much work. “[All we do is] just technique and strength training.”
There are many things to love about track. “My favorite thing about track is my friends, trying new things, and it gives me something to do cause I never have anything to do.” Brandon loves to fill his afternoon with track, not to mention the people in it make his afternoons even better. “I like Dolley as a coach.”
Overall track is a great sport to join. Whether you decide to be a part of the running, jumping or throwing, it allows you to stay active, while still having fun with your friends.
