The damages of too much homework

By: Taylor Millis [Staff Writer]
As high school kids, we have more than just school to worry about. We have chores, extra curricular activities, and even jobs. We have many responsibilities and even more homework. From personal experience, I can remember many times that I have been up into the morning trying to finish my homework. Teachers need to realize we have more than just school to think about and need to rethink the amount of homework they pile on.
We are encouraged, from a very young age to get involved. Teachers, parents and adults in general, tell us to be involved in some activity. Studies have proven kids benefit from being in an extra curricular activity. Whether it is choir or basketball, dance or track, students benefit  from the group interaction and physical or mental challenges. That being said, teachers need to realize that those activities that they encourage us to be in, usually go on after school and even later in the evenings.
Another thing that some high school students have are jobs. Many high school students need to have jobs. they need them either to begin saving money for college, or they need to have money for things that their parents can’t pay for and they want or need. In our society today it is important to have working experience before going into the adult work force. High school students who have jobs also do not have time for loads and loads of homework.
Students benefit from homework, but too much homework can really damage students grades and outside lives. In order to be able to balance school, work, activities and home lives, we need the support and helpfulness of our teachers. Giving less homework would help us do that. They may even find improvement in the students’ behavior and grades.
