Show choir is a new concept here at Marion High School. This year is the first year that Marion has ever had a show choir, and many people love it. A lot of the choir students are very excited about having show choir, because not only do they get to sing, but dance while singing.
Madison Hinton, ’13 has joined show choir. She loves singing and dance, so mixing the concepts sounded like pure heaven to Madison. This is not her first year of show choir so it’s not anything new to her. “Well we just started show choir this year at the high school, but I did it in middle school,” Madison states. For two years she had to sing in choir and dance on the dance team, but now she has the best of both worlds. “I love to sing and I love dancing so putting them together makes my day,” Madison says excitedly. There aren’t a ton of competitions, but there are enough to make this club fun. “States on Monday, then there is the Mo Show, then after that there are two competitions left,” Madison said with a smile. Not only are the dance moves fun and joyful, but the music is favored as well. “We dance and sing four songs; Safety Dance, Firework, Only Hope, and Separate Ways. My favorite is Only Hope,” she explained.
Show choir has become a great addition to Marion High School. With about thirty-five members or so, the fun has just begun. It is hoped by many students at MHS that we continue to have a show choir, because for those whom love to not only sing, and dance, finally get to have the best of both worlds.
