Veterans day isn’t a wishing wonderland

By: Kaitlyn Nathem [Co-editor of Vox]

Veterans day is meant to support the men and women who have served and who are now serving our country. These days some people are barely recognizing this day as a day to say thanks. This year especially, people forgot what the true meaning of November 11th was.

With the date this past Friday being 11/11/11 people were too concerned about making their lucky 11:11 wishes. Wishes can be made everyday, but it’s not everyday that Veterans get recognized by the world. Veterans day was made for a reason, so that the people fighting for our country can be acknowledged and told thank you. People all over the world are beginning to lose meaning of this.

Looking in the eyes of a veteran, it’s easy to tell that they are proud of what they did.  But one might even notice the bit of pain that is hidden deep behind the surface. They saw things that nobody else could even imagine, heard things that replay in their minds all the time. With people coming up to them on just one day of the year saying thanks, they know that the things they went through were well worth it to keep everyone alive today.

Veterans day needs to be recognized more and be publicized as a special wishing day much less. People need to say thanks more often and not complain about their lives.
