He walks into the engineering room with an idea and a to do list that he needs to get done for the day. He sees his partner hard at work and doesn’t hesitate to start helping. Engineering is an independent class and you can see the hardworking students working on their assignments until they are finished.
Michael Anderson, sophomore, has been in the new engineering classes at Marion all year. Project lead the way is a group from the Iowa and Iowa State Universities. It is a trial class and still has its glitches but overall is a good class. “The class is hard because it is so new for the teachers and because some of the software is hard to understand… fisher technics doesn’t work correctly making the class difficult,” Michael explains.
“Engineering is fun because it is hands on and independent not like a lot of the other classes here at Marion,” he says. This class is so much different than the others at Marion, if you like working independently this would probably be a pretty fun class for you to keep in mind for next year.
“I will probably take the next class of engineering if I can fit it in my schedule because having the whole engineering series of classes will look good on a college application and you can get college credit for these classes,” he announces. Students looking to go into some type of engineering or math field might also be people who want to consider taking the class.
Though the class might seem like all work and no fun that isn’t exactly what it’s like. “We get to goof off a lot and you can watch youtube videos, which is always fun,” he says. This class though is a lot of hard work can be fun and interesting. It just depends what you like but Michael suggests everyone should give it a try.
As he finishes his project he reflects back to all the hard work that went into it and decides it was well worth it. The projects in engineering seem like they can be real work projects and gives students an accomplished feeling.
