Happy Nov. 1st, when everyone is ready to settle into a relaxing fall season after the Halloween festivities have officially ended. It’s truly time to enjoy autumn and slowly get into a cold season coming up, or maybe not. November has become the first month of Christmas celebrations; however, did everyone just forget about Thanksgiving that is still upcoming?
It seems these days, one can’t walk into a store directly after Halloween and not immediately see Christmas trees flooding the aisles. Christmas is Dec. 25, as everybody knows, however, it seems people are treating the holiday as if it’s a two-month celebration. For some, as soon as the clock hits midnight on Halloween, it’s time to bring out the wreaths and stockings. The fall season doesn’t technically end until Dec. 21, so starting a month early to celebrate can be overwhelming, or a little bit of fun.
It’s almost become a tradition to start Christmas festivities directly after Halloween, and certain things just don’t help the rush. Mariah Carey, popstar and singer of the famous “All I Want for Christmas is You” puts out a TikTok video every year at midnight after Halloween announcing that it is officially time for Christmas. These videos get millions of likes and views which put people into the spirit quite early. Seeing a video like that can make people more ready and excited for the holiday to come and forget about Thanksgiving. Many other TikTokers put out Christmas wish lists, house decorating, and “aesthetic” videos, some even in October. It’s rare to be scrolling and see a video of someone talking about Thanksgiving or what they’re grateful for during that time. Now, however, maybe it shouldn’t be that way. The holiday is more than just eating a delicious feast on a random Thursday. It’s to give thanks to our ancestors who came before us and to celebrate a successful harvest back in 1621.
There is no doubt that the world’s favorite holiday is Christmas. Hundreds of films and shows have been made, along with so many lovely traditions. Children getting excited for Santa Claus to come and deliver presents, decorating the tree, and listening to holiday music are just some of the activities that get people thrilled about Christmas. What a time it truly is, and having that extra bit can make it that much better for people who need some holiday joy a little bit earlier. However, taking it slowly to give time to others to transition into the rest of fall and early winter is crucial; there is no need to rush the cold.
It’s one thing to be excited about a favorite holiday, though making it one’s whole personality the minute another season is over can be excessive. Although, there truly is nothing wrong with celebrating a wholesome and festive holiday a little bit early. In that case, happy holidays! However, don’t forget to be thankful for what truly matters most during this holiday season, and to never forget why everyone celebrates the events and traditions that they do.
