Stepping on the mat, he takes a deep breath. As soon as the whistle blows a thousand different strategies and moves are running through his head. With grace and speed he quickly takes down his opponent. He does all of this after spending the days before cutting weight and making sure he would be able to wrestle. Zach Cochran, sophomore, has been repeating this cycle during the wrestling season.
There have been some wins and some losses throughout the season. However, the Indians have continued to take down the season. One of their biggest tournaments was in Kansas City. “Our biggest team win was winning the Kansas tournament. There were 32 teams there. It was pretty close, we won by a couple of points,” said Cochran. Leaving Kansas succesful was a big step towards their team goal.
Like any other team, the wrestlers have set both personal and team goals. Along with the goals comes extra work. “Our main goal is to have more wins than last year. To meet this goal were staying more focused and putting in more work,” said Cochran. The more work they put in the closer they are to meeting their goals.
While the season is slowly coming to a close, there are still some meets left. “Our next meet is tomorrow against Davenport West at Vernon. We should win all of our matches” said Cochran. Don’t miss a chance to check out all the progress that the wrestling team has made and go cheer on the wrestlers.
