As many people may or may not know, the students in show choir will be leaving for Omaha, Nebraska soon. They have a show choir competition that many are very excited for. Lauren Zimmermann, senior, is one of the many that can’t wait for this event to come. “Our goal is to beat them[Linn Mar],” Zimmermann stated. She is very excited to see all the other groups perform. There will be many groups that are amazing. Also, Marion’s show choirs may never have seen some of the show choirs competing. This will be New Creation and Revelation’s first out of state competition. Many people in show choir are afraid of not beating Linn Mar. New Creation and Revelation have definitely stepped it up this year, in hopes that they can place at this competition.
The students would be okay with placing during the day round then going home. If they end up staying for longer than the day round, they will end up staying for much longer. They will get home around two A.M. “If you get into finals it’s like a grand championship,” explained Zimmermann. As much as these performers want to go far at this competition, they also don’t want to spend a super long time there just to drive home in the wee hours of the morning. New Creation and Revelation have been working very hard up to this point. They may not want to stay, but if their hard work pays off they will end up being in Nebraska for longer than many are hoping for.
Others are also excited for this change of scenery, like Tyler Vanwey, junior. Vanwey is excited to spend two full days with his closest friends. “Coming in last place because we are going up against the best show choirs in the U.S,” mentioned Vanwey when asked what his fears were for this competition. This competition is different for MHS’s show choir because it is farther away than any competition they have been to, it has better schools than most of their competitions, and they want to beat Linn Mar, really badly. Most everyone is excited for this competition because they get to catch up with their friends from Nebraska show choir camp, and watch them perform. The show choir students are leaving on Friday to begin this exciting journey to Nebraska to hopefully kick Linn Mar’s butt. Let’s all say a big good luck to New Creation and Revelation.
