Matthew 12:31-32 (ESV) states, “Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven…” Donald Trump has declared himself a nondenominational Christian who is working towards protecting Christianity from the “Radical Left” and promoting religious liberty. On April 12, he released an AI-generated social media post depicting himself dressed in white robes, placing a glowing hand over the ill or deceased as if he was healing or resurrecting the individual. Many took this post as blasphemy, and many of his Christian supporters have since then criticized him.
According to Channel 3000 News, nearly 89% of Americans who were shown the blasphemy post had a negative reaction. This begs the question of whether his response has been ethical and morally correct. He told the public, “I did post it, and I thought it was me as a doctor, and had to do with the Red Cross.” Unfortunately, his mental capacity can only handle a lie that bad. As for the hypocritical aspects, one cannot claim to be a Christian if one goes on to slander sacred figures. Some have even speculated that maybe he was told to tell the press the image was doctored, but to him, both mean the same.
His next order of business was picking a fight with Pope Leo, because what else would there be to do after an act of blasphemy than arguing with the head of the Catholic church? Pope Leo XIV (Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost) was elected in May of 2025. He preaches for others to empower peace over hate. He openly does not support Trump and his beliefs. The Pope actively speaks out about Trump’s war in Iran, as well as his mass deportation attempts.
According to Time.com, the two got into an argument when Trump stated, “I think he’s endangering a lot of Catholics and a lot of people, but I guess it’s up to the Pope. He thinks it’s just fine for Iran to have a nuclear weapon.” The Pope denied Trump’s accusations, exclaiming that he believes in peace over abuse of power, and that preaching peace will defeat the hate. The statement in itself was disrespectful, as Pope Leo has stated on numerous occasions that he does not support the war at the risk of human lives, whether American or not. Pope Leo stands strong, noting that he does not fear the Trump administration, as reconciliation is rooted in the Bible. The cause of this argument lies in disagreement on social issues, not just Christian ones. Pope Leo openly fights for migrant rights, whereas Trump is actively making mass deportation attempts. During this dispute, Trump goes as far as to praise Pope Leo’s brother, Louis, for being MAGA-minded. Seems like a dirty attempt at embarrassing Pope Leo; however, the only one left red, dare I say orange in the face, is Trump himself.
As a Christian, I believe that getting lost in political ideations does not make it okay for a person in power to call themselves a Christian while mocking religious powers and sacred figures. When all is said and done, his faith is clear, and his intentions are too, just don’t expect Mr. President to answer any of your prayers.
