This Friday’s football game is the cancer awareness game. Students at Marion High School are allowed to wear hats in school if they pay one dollar to go towards cancer research. Although most kids haven’t participated, those who did have their reasons.
Kirsten Mahoney and Will Burge, freshmen, both decided to support cancer and wear their hats. Kirsten in her light pink John Deere hat has two reasons. “[I wore my hat] to stand out for the guy I like, hoping he’ll notice me,” she grinned. She wore her hat for the looks and because her uncle had cancer.
Will Burge collects hats. He wore one of many to school to help support the cause. “My grandpa used to have cancer,” he stated. Will knows how it feels to have someone close effected with cancer. “I would pay a dollar everyday to support cancer and wear my hat.” He really cares about helping those with cancer get the support and treatment they need.
Hopefully most students will attend this Friday’s game and support cancer awareness.
