Online shopping has become increasingly popular worldwide. Whether it was from Super Bowl ads or its pure ease of use, it seems like people can now buy anything online, and Amazon makes that happen. Originally created as an online bookstore in 1994 by Jeff Bezos, Amazon is used all over the world by more than 300 million people a year. The initial name of the website was “Cadabra,” but was then shortly changed due to a lawyer thinking the website sounded like “cadaver,” sounding too morbid. With numerous services, such as medical care, pharmaceutical delivery, food services, and the ability to buy almost anything anyone could think of, the company has really made a name for itself. But are they going a little too far on some merchandise?
The organization has a wide variety of products that people enjoy buying, like waterbottles, clothing, home decor, books, beauty products, and so much more. But one can also find some rather unusual items, such as designer handbags from Louis Vuitton, rare trading cards, Rolex watches, tiny homes, and even cars. Many questionsfirst pop up when looking at the merchandise. For example, how do they ship the house, and who is actually going to buy this? When it comes to the cars, they are actually connected to many dealerships within the customer’s area, so they are able to just go pick it up there. But is this really solving anything for them? It doesn’t seem to be any different than just looking at the dealership’s website. When taking a look at Amazon’s auto page, the one thing that seems to be different is the absence of the annoying amount of ads that regular dealership websites have. The other plus about buying a car from Amazon is the chance of receiving a gift card. According to Money Talks News, with the purchase of a new Hyundai, Amazon is rewarding the customer with a $2,300 gift card to their store that they are able to use whenever they please. But is this really enough to make people buy them?
On the website, they don’t have full house listings like cars, but rather, they sell foldable container tiny homes. When looking at the homes on the website, they do not seem very real. No reviews have been posted for any of them on the actual website. A YouTuber named Kristina Smallhorn (Small Home Video) decided to buy one of the homes for the fun of it. During the process of purchasing the house, she made it her own by customizing the siding, flooring, and many other small details. She agreed that many of the houses were scams, and actually lost $10,000 trying to buy one, but eventually found one from a real seller. It took roughly two years for the whole process to be completed and the house to be standing where it is today, but it was a success in the end. There is a range of houses you can buy from Amazon, including A-Frame, Villas, two-story, and many more.
Even though Amazon seems to have anything that anyone can think of, many are questioning whether it is really worth all of it. It just seems that they are trying to put some random stuff on there and hoping it will land. Because let’s be honest, who is actually going to buy a house off of Amazon? I think that it is a fun idea, but not very realistic. There doesn’t really seem to be a point in ordering a house or car online when you aren’t able to see it in person. Overall, this seems like a not-so-good idea, and I think Amazon really needs to look at its company as a whole and evaluate what it is selling. Because maybe selling books is the only thing they should do.
