The end of a new beginning
If you had told me in middle school that I would be a part of the journalism team in high school, I would not have believed you. Never did I think I would be brave enough to join such an amazing team, but I am glad I did. I have always been passionate about my writing and storytelling. My passion for journalism helped me decide what major I’d like to study in college. I want to broaden my knowledge in communications and media. With this, I have committed to the University of Northern Iowa to major in Communication. I want to be able to work with big companies to explore greater opportunities in journalism, media, and marketing.
Graduating from high school means finally growing up. Never living in the same house as your sibling again, not living under the same roof as your mom every day, and leaving some hometown friends. As that might be scary for me, I know I’m passionate about my decided major, and I have a bright future ahead of me. Some may be scared about going to college, but I am excited, and I have a best friend who’s going to be by my side too.
Not saying I will be crying at graduation, but if I happen to shed a tear, it is not because I’m necessarily going to miss high school, I am going to miss all the memories and friends I’ve made along the way. Though I might not be as close with everyone I used to be friends with, they all hold special memories that I will not forget, and I am grateful for our paths crossing.
It is important to be kind and compassionate to others. Have self-respect and stand up for yourself. Distancing yourself from others who no longer align with your values or who drain energy instead of supporting your growth is okay. You are making decisions that will impact your future self. Always protect your peace with yourself.
My biggest role model in life would be my mom because she’s never given up on me and is always there when I need her. I know that if life throws me a curveball, l’ll have her to lean on. Another role model that stands out to me is Mundy, she always gave me the courage I needed to succeed. She has always been there for me when I needed someone, and has been the best teacher one could ask for, and for that, I am forever grateful.
The Marion High School journalism team will always hold a special place in my heart. All the shared laughter and love have always made it easy to come to class, even if I am always showing up late. It has been a privilege to work with such an amazing team. Some advice to my lower-classmen: do not doubt your instincts, take risks, and always be kind to others. Each one of you is talented, and I hope you enjoy your time in journalism like I did. [email protected] signing off one last time.
