Standing on stage, bright lights shining, and the feeling of life fills the room. For some, this experience brings back memories one only feels on stage, while others have never experienced such warmth. A home to laughter, love, and maybe tears, begins to change. Change can be scary, but also necessary.
The high school has been long due for a new auditorium. Many activities take place in the current auditorium including but not limited to: the school play, musical, and other extra-curriculars such as Green Bandana. The Marion Fine Arts Program is excited to announce the opening of the new auditorium. The first concert will not be open to the public quite yet, but hopefully with concerts to come, one may find themselves sitting in a chair in front of the stage soaking in the beautiful performances.
Jonathan Dyrland has been the choir teacher at Marion for 13 years. He is excited about the new opportunities this auditorium will bring. This “home” will seat 750 people and enhance the audience experience by increasing the sound quality. The stage will be much bigger than the old auditorium and will have brand-new lights. This new addition will be a magical experience for both viewers and performers. Dyrland is confident the first concert and many others will be completely sold out, so when open to the public, buy a ticket before they sell out. That being said, because this is new, ticket costs will remain uncertain and may change as time goes by. For the first concert, special tickets will be made as a keep-sake for those attending. However, all concerts being held will be a special experience showcasing the music department.
Dyrland is thankful for the people who voted “yes” for this auditorium, and everyone involved in making this auditorium come to life. He would also like to express his thanks to the student body for being patient during this process. “Things are going back to a new “normal” very soon,” he said. This process has been unique for everyone, but the outcome is worth any inconvenience.
Speech and the fall play are very important activities that will also take place in the Fine Arts Center as well. These groups showcase one’s talent in acting and allow one to step into the shoes of a character different from themselves. Both have a very strong sense of community, and create bonds between others.
The beautiful aura from the stage lights and the alluring sounds that fill the room will hopefully lead one to develop a love for the arts of music and drama. No matter social status, class schedule, or ability to sing or play an instrument, take the chance, and join the music program. Becoming a part of the family, the feeling of performing for loved ones, and inspiring others is incomparable. Anything is possible. Choose to grow and change. If one is looking for more, a community, or even searching for a little hope, music and other performing arts may allow one to find themselves. The beauty of sound may heal.
