She slowly rises up out of her warm, comfy, relaxing bed. She turns on the television to KCRG TV9 News, its been snowing all night, and at the very bottom of the screen she sees that it is showing all of the cancellations and delays for the day but her school is not on the list.
Jessica Alexander, freshman, said, “I think it is kind of dumb that we were the only school in the Cedar Rapids and Marion area that didn’t have a delay today, because if people live far away the road conditions can be really bad, and could put people in danger while driving!” Even though Jessica couldn’t sleep in today, she’s not too mad about it as long as she can be with her friends during the school day, staying warm while wearing her jeans and adorable UGGs.
In the winter sometimes its hard to not be depressed. Jessica stays content during the freezing, frosty weather by going to Starbucks to get her usual Carmel Frapucinno or Green Tea. Her favorite holiday food is mashed potatoes. For Jessica, a holiday without mashed potatoes just wouldn’t be the same.
Sledding is one of Jessica’s favorite winter activities. “Going down the hills with my friends is my favorite thing about sledding,” she said. Family and friends are very important to her. Over winter break Jessica plans to go to her friends houses, Celebrating Christmas, and visiting her family that she usually doesn’t get to see all the time. Lucky for Jessica she knows how to break the winter boredom.
