It’s no secret that nearly every teenage girl is obsessed with Taylor Swift. Contrary to what Kanye and his fans seem to think, she has been famous since her rise to stardom in 2006, with her first Top 40 single, “Tim McGraw”, at 16 years old. Even with her many feats in the music industry, Swift can’t seem to shake criticism when it comes to her professional and personal life. A highly publicized aspect of Swift’s life is her romantic relationships. Travis Kelce, a tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, is Swift’s newest boyfriend. Many fans of both Swift and the Chiefs are not afraid to voice their positive and negative opinions on the matter.
From what the public can gather, Kelce first tried to interact with Swift when she was performing the Eras Tour in Kansas City at Arrowhead Stadium when he was in attendance. After the roughly 3-hour and 15-minute concert, Kelce attempted to give Swift a friendship bracelet with his number on it but was denied by her security. Kelce disclosed his experience on his podcast, “New Heights,” which he co-hosts with his brother, Jason. “If you’re up on Taylor Swift concerts, there are friendship bracelets, and I received a bunch of them being there, but I wanted to give Taylor Swift one with my number on it,” he said on his July 26 episode of the podcast. However, Kelce seemed to have respect and adoration for Swift’s schedule and understood why she couldn’t meet him. “I was disappointed that she doesn’t talk before or after her shows because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs that she sings,” he said. In the days to follow, there was a lot of speculation of a possible relationship between the two. On September 21, Kelce mentioned that he had left the decision up to Taylor, as he said, “I threw the ball in her court, and I told her, ‘I’ve seen you rock the stage at Arrowhead. You might have to come see me rock the stage at Arrowhead and see which one’s a little more lit.’” Just three days later, Taylor Swift showed up to the Chiefs game and sat next to his mother, Donna Kelce. Swift continued her streak of attending games, and Travis has even been to another concert in Buenos Aires on his bye week.
There have been many public sightings of the two together since she showed up to that first game in September. One of the highlights was the couple being spotted together in attendance at a Saturday Night Live episode on October 14, where they both made appearances on screen. Kelce was in a skit about Taylor and her new status at football games, and Swift presented the musical guest of the night, Ice Spice, whom she has collaborated with before. One of my favorite acknowledgments of their relationship was the lyric change of Swift’s closing number of the Eras Tour, “Karma.” The original lyrics were, “Karma is the guy on the screen coming straight home to me” which could be a possible nod to her previous relationship with the amateur actor Joe Alwyn, which lasted six years. During Buenos Aires Night Two, which was the concert that Travis Kelce attended, Swift changed the lyrics to “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs coming straight home to me” which surprised and excited the fans in attendance. Many Swifties enjoy the dynamic of her newest relationship and don’t see her writing bad songs about him anytime soon.
