Tonight, the boy’s soccer team faces Davenport Assumption in the second round of district soccer. Carter Stigge, junior, and one of the team’s captains is getting all sorts of feelings about the big game tonight. “I’m a little bit nervous but also anxious to get out there and play.” Stigge stated.
The boys have come a long way this season and have improved tremendously over the past couple years and the changes in their game comes from the change in their attitude, “I think the biggest difference this season is that we definitely bonded as a team this year. There’s a lot more chemistry than there has been before. We know each other a lot better so we play better.” Stigge said.
Being a captain, Stigge is a leader for his team. With this responsibility comes a lot of pressure, especially during the playoffs. “I’m feeling a lot of pressure. There’s just a constant pressure of having people look up to me and a lot of pressure to win.”
Win or lose tonight, the boy’s season will have to come to an end eventually. The team hopes it ends with a championship. Either way, the team will have to say goodbye to their senior teammates and Stigge knows it will be tough to say goodbye. “I think our last game, whenever that will be, will be a hard thing to do. That’s why we’re playing so hard. It’ll be tough to say goodbye to senior because they’re a big reason why we’ve come so far.” Stigge said. Stigge knows tonight’s game will be a fight to the end but he thinks the team is ready, “I definitely give Davenport respect. They beat Solon to get to us but we have a better record, RedNation, and a home field advantage. We have everything it takes to beat them.”
The team wants everyone’s support tonight. The game is at 5PM. Come out, cheer loud, and wear RED.
