It’s October 25th, and Halloween is drawing near. The students at Marion High School are adjusting to the new quarter, classes, sports starting and ending, and a little something unexpected.
On Tuesday, mid October, it started to snow! For some, seeing the tiny, white flakes trickle to the ground was a relief. For others those seemingly innocent flakes opened up the door to winter, and with that, dread.
Hopefully we can ward off anymore snow, at least until after Halloween. Even though it may not snow, many of the tiny trick-or-treaters will still be stuffed into puffy winter coats by their cautious parents. The cold weather will put a damper on costumes and trick-or-treating, but surely the children, more than likely on a sugar high, will not be stopped by a little chilly weather.
The snow often jumpstarts winter/holiday traditions. The heat kicks on, fire places start, and people enjoy a nice warm cup of hot chocolate as winter settles in. But is it time for all of this yet?
The obvious question now is, will fall will hold on for a couple more weeks or will winter take over? The leaves on the trees have barely begun to change and already cold fronts are moving in.
Although little snow actually stuck to the ground, students undoubtedly got an inkling of a thought about winter, snow, storms, and the no school, or “snow” days that inevitably follow.
As winter approaches take it in stride and enjoy the few decent days that are left before winter unleashes its freezing wrath. And hopefully the early snow was a fluke so Halloween festivities won’t be smothered in snowflakes.
