Finals week is upon us for the first time this year. The week where cramming begins and sleeping ends. A week full of stress and anxiety. A week where one test can make or break a grade.
Students cram in study hours the night before a test to make a last ditch effort to raise their grade. Finals week has been a phantom that has haunted high school students for a long time. Finals are nothing new to high school, so why are high school students still practicing the age old tradition of cramming?
Well the answer is that the majority of high school students are not only worried about finals but they have sports and activities after school, and maybe a part time job as well. Not only that but teacher still give out homework on finals week. So, not only do they have to study they also have to do other homework, go to practices and make it to their shift at work on time. In other words, high school students are really busy people.
Finals week is stressful enough and it just adds to the stress when homework, activities and jobs are all piled on top of it. So, maybe teachers can cut back on homework for the week of finals, coaches and directors can end practices early and employers can allow students to take off work for the week. Students, remember to take a breath and time manage, finals week doesn’t have to be mean being stressed and sleepless nights.
