She walks into the gym. The crowd is huge and loud as they wait for the game to start. Each team’s starters are announced and they shake the other players hands. She lines up with her team for the National Anthem thinking that it’s almost game time. She can’t wait for it to start and spend the next four quarters working with her team to go to state.
Michalyn Mohr, freshmen on the girls varsity basketball team, is very excited to play tonight. Tonight the girls will be playing at Dewitt at 7pm. They will be playing Davenport Assumption to go to State. Mohr has high hopes for the team though, “Well they are #2 for 3A, so it’ going to be tough,” she explained, but she believes they have a chance. “As long as we rebound, I think we will be good,” Mohr added. She believes that if they stick to the game plan that they will be just fine.
Mohr and the girls on the team have been preparing for this game. They have spent a lot of time in the gym leading up to this night. “Well they have a very tall girl, so we have been preparing for her,” she exclaimed. The girls will have a tough fight ahead of them tonight, but if they guard the tall girl like they have been practicing and keep rebounding, they have a very good chance at making it to state this year.
There is a pep bus going to the game tonight and Mohr is very happy to hear this. “Everyone always goes to the boys game and not the girls,” she proclaimed, so she is very excited that there will be a student section there tonight. She loves seeing her classmates there to support her and the team, so be there tonight at 7pm to support these girls!
The whistle is blown. The jump ball is thrown in the air. The two players go up and Marion gets the ball. Mohr can already tell that this is going to be a good game. Getting the ball, she passes it off to her teammate thinking, “Let the game begin!”
