It’s a regular afternoon, and once again he finds himself staring at a target. He could either miss or succeed. With his friends and teams support he feels like he could accomplish anything. The competitiveness of the sport is what is so appealing to him. The pressure of being able to hit the target is what archery is all about.
Alex Kruser is a sophomore at Marion who enjoys the thrill of archery. Although it’s something not many people know about, he seems to enjoy it despite what other people may think. “I like the whole shooting aspect and the fact that it’s competitive,” Alex said enthusiastically. The only thing that Alex can find wrong with archery is the fact that he’s not the best at it.
While most people don’t really consider archery an actual sport, it’s participants definitely think otherwise. “It does take talent to shoot a bow and arrow,” Alex says matter-of-factly. Even though you don’t have to run and you don’t really sweat it doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s not a sport.
Some might wonder how Alex even got interested in such an underappreciated activity. Like most people in archery he was influenced to go out
by his friends. “I had talked to my friends who were in archery and they said it was fun so I decided to go out,” he laughed. Here we see that peer pressure isn’t always a bad thing.
Archery is a sport that more people should get involved in. “It’s fun, it’s worthwhile. It’s easy to make friends and it is definitely a challenge,” he informed. Alex and his friends would agree that archery is exciting and a lot of fun.
