He is standing behind the curtain, waiting for it to rise. His heart is racing and his
knees are shaking. He keeps going over the lyrics in his head; he is committed to a
perfect performance.
Mitchell Martens, junior, is playing Charles in the upcoming fall musical
Pippin. “I love it because I’m king which lets me have power, and it’s a leading role,” hi
admitted. Being in the play is a lot of hard work; they have been practicing since mid
summer.
Pippin is about a boy trying to find what he wants to do in life.”[The play] is
okay, like part of it is confusing, weird, random, but fun at the same time,” he laughed.
He feels that being in this play is an honor.
Even though it’s a lot of hard work, it is also a lot of fun at the same time. “[I
went out] because I like to sing and I’m a good actor. Plus I like to make people laugh,”
he exclaimed. He knows that no matter how the musical goes he still has his pride of
being chosen, but of course he wants it to go well.
The crowd is on there feet cheering as if they had just seen the best musical in
their life. His voice is raspy from his singing, but he enjoys that, knowing that he worked
hard enough to make his throat raw. He takes his last look at the crowd as his smile starts
to fade; he made it through another play.
