Throwback is a family-run small business selling vintage-inspired apparel and decor.
A lively new shop is taking over Downtown Marion, bringing with it much-needed retro charm. For anyone who enjoys shopping, this is the ideal place. Throwback, which opened its doors on Saturday, April 5, is an alluring destination for anyone who appreciates vintage clothing and classic candy. This shop was inspired by “a need for high-quality apparel from the good ‘ol days,” according to Liz Cloven, the owner of this new store. Cloven has experience from other family-owned small businesses such as The Purple Wagon and Frankie P’s. She is incorporating her knowledge of entrepreneurship from her other jobs into her new project. Anyone who steps inside is taken back to a world filled with classy outfits and sweet treats. It is the perfect place for anyone seeking a bit of nostalgia.
Throwback stands apart from its competitors with its charming and quaint atmosphere and reliable staff who are always willing to extend a helping hand. Retro in urban areas has a rich history, evolving from necessity to cultural sensation. Originally serving as a source of affordable, unique clothing and household items, these retro shops now represent sustainability, nostalgia, and individuality, which has helped influence urban landscapes and fashion trends. Throwback fills its walls with bright and vibrant decor, highlighting its efforts to stand out in a bustling marketplace.
Cloven got her whole family involved in her entrepreneurial journey to help start up her store. Her children, Slater, Jaxon, Marley, and Zeta, along with her husband Doug, worked hard to bring her vision to life. “It’s significant to me that my family is involved in this process so that we can spend more time together,” Cloven shared. Cloven even had her brother-in-law, Simon Peters, along with her dad, model her clothing to post on Throwback’s website. Throwback will also be using resources from other small businesses across the country. “My first local small business we have partnered with is Kay+Rose Designs,” said Cloven. They will get macrame decor and the wristlets that have been popular so far.
The community needs another family-oriented destination where they can reminisce about the good old days. In our fast-paced lives, the happy memories from our past can easily get lost. Memories are so important because they help one understand who they were and the person they’ve become. Without looking back and experiencing those memories, one tends to feel less connected and more negative. Throwback can become the place that brings cheerful memories to life again and can help foster community. This wonderful new shop not only brings back memories of the past but also looks to the future to create new ones as a family.
This store has everything one needs in life: stylish clothing, cherished past memories, new future experiences, and family. Cloven said, “Family and my faith are the most important things to me while I’m starting Throwback!” Cloven wants to incorporate these values into her shop. She works hard to make sure that her customers see her values in everything that she does.
